Kentucky Department of Labor's Role in Apprenticeship

The Kentucky Department of Labor is responsible for the implementation and monitoring of apprenticeship programs in Kentucky.  Specific responsibilities for administering apprenticeship program standards rest with the Division of Employment Standards, Apprenticeship and Training.

The division is represented by apprenticeship coordinators.  These representatives are assigned specific geographic territories for the purpose of marketing the apprenticeship concept and assisting the employer (sponsor) with the process of starting up an apprenticeship program.

The apprenticeship coordinator is responsible for conducting program reviews to assure training standards are being met.  The apprenticeship coordinators are also the first point of contact when you have questions or concerns with your apprenticeship program.

According to state law, it is the policy of the Department of Labor to foster, encourage and develop apprenticeship and training programs with Kentucky's employers, trade associations and labor organizations.

With the expansion and implementation of the registered on-the-job apprenticeship program, Kentucky will be assured that the Commonwealth and its workforce will remain globally and nationally competitive.
