The General Counsel serves as legal counsel for the Department of Labor commissioner in matters for which the department is responsible. This responsibility involves representing the department in all cases concerning occupational safety and health and wage and hour regulations, including those cases pertaining to discrimination against employees because of sex, disability or for exercising their rights relative to labor laws.
The Legal Division also assists in the preparation and review of administrative regulations and legislation relating to labor laws and the Department of Labor. It is a division within the Office of Legal Services of the Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet.
